Most people are unprepared to handle police encounters. Few people understand their constitutional protections. As a result, when stopped by police, many people unknowingly waive many of their rights.
Flex Your Rights produced an excellent video entitled "Busted" to teach people how to handle police encounters. "Busted" is narrated by retired ACLU director (1978-1999) Ira Glasser. BUSTED depicts the pressure and confusion of common police encounters.
"BUSTED teaches that people have precious inherent rights under our Constitution and should never feel guilty when exercising these rights during police encounters." BUSTED illustrates the right and wrong ways to handle different police encounters and pays special attention to demonstrating how you, the viewer, can courteously and confidently refuse police searches.
Busted's high quality suggests it was produced with very good consultation from criminal defense or civil liberties lawyers. Busted's narrator is former ACLU national director Ira Glasser.
