Farewell to Pioneer Advertising Lawyer Richard Shapiro

Advertising Attorney Richard D. Shapiro died at his home December 31, 2006 at age 63. Richard Shapiro was best remembered by Kentucky lawyers as a gutsy personal injury lawyer who took the Kentucky Bar Association to the United States Supreme Court and paved the way for lawyer advertising in Kentucky.  Shapiro v. Kentucky Bar Association, 486 U.S. 466 (1988) . His oral argument can be found online.  Lawyers everywhere owe him a debt of gratitude.

Shapiro gained notoriety in Louisville for commercials with impact and which appealed to the average person injured in vehicle accidents.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at The Temple, 5101 U.S. Hwy 42, Louisville, Ky. Herman Meyer & Son in charge of arrangements.
