Chief Judge Jan Fiss of St. Clair County, Belleville, Ill., temporarily stepped down on December 11, 2006 as judge pending the outcome of a DUI charge against Judge Patrick Young.
Judge Fiss had been a passenger in Judge Young’s vehicle on December 3, 2006 when it collided with a pickup truck. Police charged and arrested Judge Young with driving under the influence after he refused to take field sobriety tests. During the investigation, police observed Judge Fiss emptying an open beer can and trying to hide it after the wreck.
